LOCATION, PARKING, TRANSPORTATION & NEIGHBORHOOD INFO

The Halstead School of Portrait and Figure Art is now located at 1417 Hinman Avenue in Evanston. To reach the studio, call 847.869.6560, or email us at Richard@HalsteadPortraits.com.

Getting into the building: There is an intercom system with a key pad located to the left of the front double doors. On the key pad, hit 3 and then # to be connected with the studio by phone. The person who answers your call can then buzz you into the building. If you forget which number to press, you can use the up and down arrows on the intercom to locate the school in the electronic directory and initiate a call to the studio to gain access. NOTE: If you call the studio on your cell phone, we cannot buzz you inside, but we will know that you are there and can then instruct you in how to use the key pad (should you need help) or come downstairs and open the door for you personally.

Parking near the school: There are a limited number of free parking spaces (accessible via the alley) behind the building and unlimited hours for street parking on the east side of Hinman (but please check posted street cleaning and/or snow removal parking restrictions to make sure they are not in force on the day you park). All-day street parking is also often available on the north side of Greenwood (1/2 block north) and the west side of Judson (1 block east)—but, again, please double-check parking restrictions. During week-long summer workshops if all-day street parking is unavailable, parking can still be found 3-1/2 blocks north and another 1/2 block west at the public garage on Church Street between Hinman and Chicago Avenues.

The El can also get you there. The Purple line’s Dempster el stop is approximately 2-1/2 blocks away.

You can find all that you are likely to need just a few blocks away. By walking 1-1/2 blocks south on Hinman and 1/2 block west on Dempster, students can find coffee, scones, sandwiches, vegetarian offerings, and even sushi. Just 2-1/2 blocks north on Hinman and 1 block west on Davis, students can find Chinese food, deep dish pizza, and even tapas. For the last-minute purchase of art supplies, Blick Art Materials is a little less than a mile away on Maple Avenue just north of Church Street.
