Instructor: Most classes are taught by Mr. Halstead, but you may, on occasion, be taught by a guest instructor.
Media Taught: Most students work in oil paint, pastel, or charcoal, although instruction with acrylic paints and graphite is also available.
Class Size: Class is limited to 12 students, accepted on a first-come, first-admitted basis.
Class Schedule: Class sessions are offered by the semester: fall (September–December), winter (January–March), and spring (April–June). The specific semester schedule, which takes into account major holidays, is noted on the Schedule & Registration page. If you wish to take classes during the summer, see 2012 summer workshops.
Registration: To register for the morning classes, the afternoon classes, or both, prior to the start of the semester you must submit a completed registration form with a check for the full amount of the class(es). You can do this by mail or in person. Classes fill up quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Registration Deadline: Enrollment ends when a class is full.
Cost: The price for a semester of Saturday morning or afternoon classes runs $312; for both: $574. The price for a semester of Thursday morning classes runs $312.
Note: If you will have to miss a class in order to observe a religious holiday not observed by the schedule, you may deduct $26 from your registration if you are in one class per week, or $52 if you are in two. However, other planned absences cannot be deducted.
Make-up Classes: If you miss a class, you may make it up in either the morning or afternoon class within the same 3- or 4-month semester—provided there is room. In other words, if you are in the morning class, you may come to the afternoon class for a make-up, and vice-versa. However, you may not be able to position yourself in the spot you have reserved in your usual class.
Requirements: An eagerness to learn and your own art supplies. People of all ability levels are welcome. Please note that this is not an open studio for artists who only want access to a model and then to be left alone to work.
